Any woman knows that it can be fun to buy their man clothing, but you want to make sure that you are actually shopping for stuff that he will wear. That doesn’t mean that you can’t get him something different than what he normally wears, but you want to make sure that it is similar enough to his style that he just might want to try it on (and possibly fall in love with it). Here’s the right way to buy clothes for the man in your life.
There are a few things you want to keep in mind when you go shopping for the guy in your life, other than his preferred style. You want to make sure that you consider the season so that you aren’t buying him sweaters in the heat of the summer, or the perfect pair of cargo shorts in the middle of winter.
Make Sure You Know His Size
Before you head out to raid the men’s section at his favorite stores (or yours) make sure you dig around in his closet and check the sizes if the clothes he already has. Write them down so you’ll be able to remember.
While men’s shirts are simply S-XXL, or larger, their paints can be a little more tricky. Unlike the single and double numeral digits women’s pants have, mean’s are measured by the waist and inseam.
You also need to watch out for vanity sizing. Just like a 13 in women’s jeans aren’t always the same as a 13 in another brand, so too does this happen in men’s clothing (just not as often). You can prevent mistakes by measuring your man’s pants with a soft measuring tape and taking it with you when you shop!
Take Time To See What’s In Style
Take some time to look at the most recent articles on what is in style for guys, by season of course. It’s not too hard to punch in a few words into Google and see what is fashionable for men at any given moment.
Another thing to do is to flip through men’s style magazines when you are at the grocery or big box store. Even entertainment magazines can give you an idea of what is currently in style.
Look Through His Closet First
While you are in your man’s closet looking at sizes look at what he likes to wear. If your guy is into t-shirts and jeans you may find it a little difficult to get him into a suit and tie, or even a button up shirt.
You may need to work slowly to help him step up in style, but trying polo shirts before going straight to the button up shirt. A guy with a rock star look is going to be harder to sell on the preppy look.
If you know where to look though, you can find preppy clothes that are still casual and would even look good on a rock star. Your man doesn’t need to be Brad Pitt to look hot in a short sleeved button up shirt.
Think Of His Comfort
T-shirts and jeans guys are less likely to be comfortable to a guy used a suit and tie, but you may be able to get him into a nice pair of khaki pants, or even shorts. His comfort isn’t just about what he likes to wear and feels comfortable in though, it’s also about what is comfortable depending on the weather and where he is going to be going.
Make Sure You Don’t Forget The Weather
Look for natural fabrics during the summer. Your guy will be much happier in materials like cotton when it’s hot outside and he’s sweating. You don’t want him in a white tank top and cut off shorts though. Go for some class.
When winter arrives it’s about layers, instead of discarding layers. Remember, guys look good in scarves too. However, make sure the scarf fits his style and he just might be willing to wear it!
