Mother's Day

As you know, raising kids is hard work, and if you want to show your mother how grateful you are for everything she’s done for you in the past then consider hosting a family Mother’s Day Brunch this May to celebrate the wonderful occasion.

Mother's Day

The Guest List

Depending on how large your extended family is, you may want to bring all of your siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, and so on for the extravaganza, especially if there’s a matriarch of honor that you’d like to truly honor this year. However, space and budget constraints may make that too difficult to achieve. Write down a guest list and find out who can make it and who may have made individual Mother’s Day plans. With a specific number in mind, you’ll have an easier time with planning food and table arrangements.

You’ll have plenty to do the morning of Mother’s Day, and as a mommy yourself, you may wake up to surprises from your little ones. Make sure you can enjoy the day as well by setting up everything you can ahead of time, including setting the table the night before. If you’re going to be doing your brunch on your outdoor patio, have all the cutlery, kitchenware, and napkins you’ll need sitting out and ready for placement in the morning. If you want to do your table up a little fancier, use fresh spring flowers in designer vases for your centerpiece and really incorporate the best of the season.

The Gifts

PP_14_PLA01506_PC1977_MS2261_W1_SQSince there will likely be many mothers at your shindig (yourself included) the question of Mother’s Day gifts can get a bit hairy. While you should definitely still purchase something personal and sweet for your own mother, plan on little “mommy goodie bags” for all the other mothers at your brunch party, whether that be your in-law, sister, best friend, or cousin. Fill it with fun items you know they’ll love or items they can pamper themselves with, like sweet candles or bubble bath potion. You may also count the brunch invite as a present, as the time and effort put into the occasion on a day where you should also be cherished can be considered a gift in itself. The Night-Before Food Options

Consider brunch menu items that you can prepare the night before and pop in the oven when the time comes. Dishes that require eggs like quiche and casseroles are perfect; prepare the night before, then bake in the morning. Not an egg lover? Try a French toast casserole that you can throw in the oven—the smell alone will be worth the effort.

Frozen Pastries

No, I’m not suggesting you head to the freezer aisle (although that’s always a viable option). When I say frozen pastries, I mean sweets you’ve prepared yourself in the weeks before and popped in the freezer. Think scones, cookies, and even muffins. You’ll save yourself time and stress on the weekend of and be able to pull them out and defrost—they’ll taste like they just came out of the oven. If you are planning last minute and need a hand, have some cookies delivered from a company like Cookie Bouquets.

A Drink Table

For some reason or another, brunch is synonymous with mimosas and Bloody Marys. If you plan on serving the OJ-champagne concoction or tomato juice wonder at your Mother’s day shindig, make it easy for guests to refill their glasses. Set up a drink table with all the necessary ingredients, and make it fun with cute straws, sweet mason jars, and plenty of accoutrements for decoration and taste; for the mimosas, think vibrant berries; for the Bloody Marys, grab pickled asparagus, celery, olives, and salt for the rim. Make sure you offer non-alcoholic beverages, as well. Iced tea is a wonderful addition to any brunch spread, and you can always infuse a batch of sun tea with your choice of fruit or herb for an added punch of flavor.

If you’re looking to spend your Mother’s Day with all the special moms you know, consider hosting a wonderful brunch shindig sure to bring joy to everyone in your family and serve as the perfect place to show appreciation for all the strong women you know (including yourself).
