A garage has a very specific purpose in most households – it’s a place to store your car. A garage is a vital part of any house, however, whether you have a car or not. In fact, we will go as far as to say that it’s one of the most important areas of any home. Here’s why:

It Keeps Your Car Safe

As we already mentioned, most homeowners use their garage as a place to keep their car. Not only is the garage the obvious place to put your vehicle, it will also ensure it’s kept safe and in the best condition possible. With your car in a garage, you won’t have to wake up early to scrape snow off the windshield in the winter or burn your skin on hot leather during the summer! You won’t even have to go outside when the weather isn’t ideal. Additionally, while in your garage, your car is kept out of harm’s way. You don’t have to worry about being hit by another vehicle while parked on the road or being a victim of vandalism or theft. A garage makes your life more convenient and hassle free, and it also ensures that your car is kept as safe as possible.

It’s a Great Place for Storage

Every garage is big enough to fit at least one car, some two or more. That’s a lot of space! If you have a car, then of course, your garage is the place that this car will be stored. Typically, even if you do have a car, there is still plenty of extra room for storage. And if you don’t, well, you have a whole room to keep anything your heart desires! You can store athletic equipment, gardening tools, crafts, clothes, and more in this extra space. You won’t have to worry about taking up important real estate inside your home for items you don’t need on a daily basis or items that just don’t look very nice or may make a mess.

It Adds Value to Your Home

These days, home buyers don’t think of a garage as an added bonus, they think of it as something that’s vital. They expect to have a garage when purchasing a home, and so having one will not only ensure that you’re able to sell your home at some point down the road, it will also increase your home’s value. In fact, according to MoneyCrashers.com, homeowners who build a garage see a 62% return on investment.

It’s the First Part of Most Homes That You’ll See

Any time you drive up to either your own house or someone else, most likely the first thing you see is their garage. You may not have noticed this before, but it’s true indeed. The garage is the focal point of most homes and if this doesn’t show how important it is, then we don’t know what will!

It’s Really Just an Extra Room in Your House

We already mentioned that a garage is a great place for storage. Even if you don’t have a car or need any extra storage room, you can always find a purpose for the extra space in your garage. Whether you use it to safely keep large athletic equipment, turn it into a gardening area, a bar/entertaining room, a home office, or a kids’ playroom, if you don’t need your garage for a car, just think of it as an added room in your house. You can turn this extra space into anything you can dream up.

It’s a Great Place to Make a Mess

Most people have garages that are unfinished and kept out of sight of visitors and guests. Because of this, a garage is a perfect area to put your creativity to the test. You can use your garage as an area to complete household projects, build, garden, paint, create and more. Every home could use an area where making a mess is allowed and encouraged.
