Loft ConversionsHaving a family is one of the greatest joys in a mother’s life. Nothing beats those little kisses and hugs or that tiny voice uttering “Mummy” for the very first time. However, being a mum isn’t all fun and games as there are those times that you would simply give anything you own to just get away for an hour or two to do the things you’d love to do. From watching your favorite film to reading a good book to sewing that new dress you thought to have ready for the holidays, there just isn’t enough hours in the day nor is there space to be alone.

Why not find a builder who can transform that loft into a lovely day area for mum? It would be your own personal space that couldn’t be invaded (on threat of no candy for a week!) and someplace near enough for you to hear what’s going on below but far enough for a bit of peace and tranquillity.

A Word of Warning to the Wise

Of course as a mum you know that little people need to be watched at all times. Even when they’re thankfully asleep. However, since the average mother gets only about 17 minutes of free time a day, that is something she desperately needs more of!  If you want to transform your loft into mum’s getaway, also make sure you bring in someone to mind the kids whilst you’re upstairs in your sanctuary. As the kids get older and are in their second or third years of school, it might be alright to leave them at their homework in the kitchen while you step upstairs to heaven, but before that, have them watched for safety’s sake.

Loft Conversions You Won’t Regret

There is nothing to say that you need to follow a set of plans that every other loft in town has followed. When you find a builder to do your loft conversion, feel free to make a few modifications to the design. Do you want skylights for extra light? Some women who paint or craft really appreciate that extra light and those mums who step upstairs at night whilst the little ones sleep enjoy time gazing at the stars and thinking about all that has been in her life along with her hopes for the future.

Daybeds for Those Times When the In-Laws Arrive – Unannounced!

It may be mum’s own little private sanctuary so let’s keep it that way. How often do the in-laws arrive on your doorstep only to ask if you hadn’t heard their telephone message last week that they’d be in town. With email, texting and Facebook messenger, who listens to phone recordings anymore? Certainly not you! So tuck them away upstairs in your private little sanctuary and you will find peace in your household that you never imagined possible with the in-laws in town. Yes, it’s still your sanctuary but this time it’s working in reverse. You have peace in your household, keeping the tension upstairs.

What mum would regret a loft conversion that is for her and her alone, except on those rare occasions when company shows up unannounced? Talk to your builder, modify plans and make it your own. This is solitude no one can take from you so enjoy every last minute of it. You deserve it.
