Do you plan on visiting Busch Gardens Williamsburg, or Water Country USA soon? If you are then your souvenirs will be put into a recycled paper bag. Busch Gardens Williamsburg switching from plastic to paper bags in major sustainability initiative within the SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment® family of theme parks. Paper or plastic? Now there is just one choice at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA.

Park gift shops now offer paper bags made from recycled paper or guests can choose to buy reusable bags. The change took effect April 19 at Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. When the parks open for the season on May 18th there will be paper-only available.

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment began the plastic to paper transition in 2011 when SeaWorld® San Diego stopped using plastic bags. SeaWorld® Orlando followed suit in 2012. The company expects to be paper-only in all 11 of its parks by 2013.

Eliminating plastic bags makes an important statement about the company’s commitment to the environment, as well as the need to help protect marine animals from debris. Wildlife such as sea turtles often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, one of their favorite foods.

This commitment across all 11 parks will keep an estimated four million plastic bags from entering landfills and the environment each year, and also allows guests to play a direct part in making a difference on the planet.

I’m heading to Busch Gardens in a few weeks. I went last year and took my then 4-year old, she had a blast. I try and visit Busch Gardens when I’m in Virginia. Now that I’m moving back home to Virginia I will be there often.

What’s your favorite ride at Busch Gardens?

Here are my two favorite. Looking forward to riding them again, soon!

Mach Tower — 240 feet of adrenaline-pulsing thrills with a view of the park and surrounding countryside you have to see to believe.

  1. That’s awesome they are making the switch!
Those rides look scary! I’m not sure I could handle them in my old age 😉

  2. We love Busch Gardens! I like taking my own reusable grocery bag to put purchase in. So much easier to carry too.

The Griffin was the best ride ever and I consider myself in the “old age” category. Face your fears I say. Can’t wait till Busch Garden opens.
