Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone it’s time to concentrate on Christmas. Where exactly did this year go? I can’t believe it’s that time of year already. I was sent a copy of Christmas with the First Ladies: The White House Decorating Tradition from Jacqueline Kennedy To Michelle Obama.  I’ve really enjoyed reading this book and learning how so many First Ladies helped decorate the most famous house in America. After looking at all the different crafts and recipes I decided to try my hand Lady Bird’s Christmas Cranberry Salad Mold.

I think it’s so neat that I can recreate something that a First Lady use to make and enjoy serving to her guests. This book is chock-full of unique and meaningful Christmas crafts and recipes. Lady Bird’s Christmas Cranberry Salad Mold is one of many recipes I will make this holiday season. All it took were 3, very simple steps and there I had it, Lady Bird’s Christmas Cranberry Salad Mold. JL even helped stir the cranberries while they cooked. While making this salad mold I couldn’t help but ask myself if I was doing it right. Was this how Lady Bird chopped her celery? Exactly what kind of chopped nuts did she use? My husband and family really enjoyed eating what I made for them but if I could have one person taste test it for me I would ask the late Lady Bird Johnson what she thought of it.

Lady Bird enjoyed this recipe a lot and she took the time to write personal message on the recipe card. Now that recipe, along with others are in the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum as part of Mrs. Johnson’s personal papers.

Lady Bird’s Christmas Cranberry Salad Mold is just one of many amazing Christmas recipe ideas found inside this book. Next I’ll probably make Hillary Clinton’s Chocolate Chip Cookies and Betty Ford’s Cranberry Tree. There are other neat ideas but those are some of my favorite.
