Planning for a newborn is exciting for soon-to-be moms and dads. You get to create the perfect nursery for your little one and splurge on buying clothes, toys, blankets and the like. Friends and family members also want to share the enjoyment with you. Baby showers provide the perfect setting for your loved ones to celebrate your new beginnings and bring gifts.

Baby Gift Lists

Moms have been creating baby gift lists to give to their guests for many years back. The lists of stores to visit were originally included with the baby shower invitations. Many stores, like Babies R US and Target, created baby registries for new parents, which provided opportunities for people to visit the stores and review select items on the registries. This process made it easy for people to select what they wanted to purchase and even view items that were previously purchased. Parents who created the registries could monitor their lists and discover all of the gifts that were purchased. Before the Internet became a popular way to shop online, most people only chose a few select stores to create registries because of the time-consuming process of traveling from store to store.

Over the past decade, the Internet has become a popular and convenient way for consumers to search thousands of stores and find exactly what they want to purchase. According to HubSpot, 61 percent of Internet users research products online, and 44 percent use search engines to shop online. Consumers can search popular store items using search engines and select from a variety of images and price ranges from different stores. Most retailers allow customers to create accounts, save items that they want to their wish lists and complete a purchase within a matter of minutes.

Now, people can create their baby registries online and simply give the provided links to guests of their baby showers. Many web hosting services, such as,, provide new parents with convenient online tools to create baby registries and add items from hundreds of stores with just the click of a button. They can even sync current registries from different stores into one without starting a new search of their favorite baby products.

  1. You’re right, gift registries are a convenient tool to send a gift to new parents. I recently went online to search for something to give to a newborn in a distant state. It turns out that what the parents wanted was diapers. That’s something I never would have thought of and they were thrilled.
