Destination Daydreams: Reasons to Add Whistler Blackcomb to Your Bucket List

Would you be interested in visiting a place with lots of activities, beautiful scenery, and pleasant people? It sounds like a destination worthy of the bucket list. Whistler Blackcomb is such a place and it’s a premier go-to destination in North America for many travelers. However, don’t take the actions of others as reason to visit. Read through more than a few reasons to go and decide for yourself if it should be on your list.

Cruising the Highway

The Sea-to-Sky Highway is similar to the Pacific Coast Highway but rather than sun-kissed waves, Highway 99 hosts continuous visions of snow-capped cliff sides. Cruising along cascading waterfalls and brilliant ice fields for two hours is a great way to start your trip to Whistler.

Seeing the Peaks

It must be wonderful to see the area from a sky-level view. The Peak 2 Peak Gondola Ride takes visitors from Whistler to Blackcomb mountain and back again. Bring along a camera to capture a bird’s eye view of snow-draped valleys and majestic bunches of pines as your gondola glides you along the rocky mountain passes.

Shopping the Village

Whistler Village is a quaint area surrounded by beautiful mountains and is only a short walk from Whistler vacation rentals. No cars are allowed to pass through, which makes for a wonderful opportunity to waltz along the charming streets while popping into outlet stores and unique boutiques. Filled with travelers and locals alike, it’s a perfect chance to relax with a coffee or find mementos to bring home with you.

Ski the Mountains

It would be a huge omission not to mention the world-class skiing to be had at Whistler Blackcomb. It attracts some of the best skiers on the planet, but it’s a great place for beginners too; the ski school is considered one of the best. Of course, you can easily swap your skis for a snowboard.

Skate the Rink

Whistler Olympic Plaza transforms into a huge outdoor rink each season. Staff ensure the thickness of the ice is at least 6 inches at all times as an added precautionary measure. Despite Whistler Blackcomb’s association to skiing, skating is considered to be Canada’s most popular winter activity.

Drink at the Pub

Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub and Patio is a favorite with locals and return visitors.  They supply a healthy dose of live music, craft beers, and delicious pub food. Fill your stomach with a Guinness Burger or Pale-ale battered North Pacific cod and then wash it down with unique beers on tap or your favorite cocktail.

Stroll through Function Junction

After you’ve been through Whistler village, stroll through Function Junction.  The area has boutiques, art galleries, pastry shops, and plenty of spontaneous conversation to be had with locals.  It’s a great place to go if you want to take a break from the mountains.

It’s a family vacation for some, a romantic getaway for others, and could be the next destination on your bucket list.  Whistler Blackcomb offers food, fun, and friendly atmosphere aside from world-class skiing and a number of other winter activities.
