We all deserve a treat from time to time. Decadent days are for relaxing and remembering what life was like before kids came along and real life caught up with you. You probably remember them well: they were days when you could stay out dancing until dawn, book last minute weekends away with friends, and blow your wages on a piece of statement jewelry or some designer shoes.
Sadly, those days are long gone, but this does not mean you can’t enjoy a little bit of ‘me time” occasionally. So if this sounds like a great idea, here are some ideas to get you started.
1. Have a Manicure or Pedicure
Our feet and hands tend to be neglected when kids come on the scene. After all, who has time to sit and apply three coats of nail polish? You can change that with a manicure and pedicure session.
2. Retail Therapy
Retail therapy really can make you feel better if you’re feeling down. Whether you treat yourself to some new reading material, a new outfit, or an item from the Decadent Days range at Kavador, you’re sure to feel better afterwards.
3. Go for a Walk Outdoors
Walking is very underrated. Nothing beats a long walk in the sunshine, somewhere scenic. If the weather is good, go for a walk and give yourself some headspace.
4. Read a Good Book
It is hard to find time to read a book when you have small children, so if you have some ‘me time’, grab a good book and chill out for an hour.
5. Write in a Journal
How often do you spill your innermost thoughts on to paper? Journaling is a good habit. It helps you make sense of the world and your place in it.
6. Watch a Movie
Head to the cinema and watch an afternoon matinee. Immerse yourself in a great movie and forget about real life for a couple of hours. Don’t forget to buy a tub of popcorn too. A good movie is not the same without a tub of popcorn!
7. Meet a Friend for Coffee
Arrange to meet a friend for a childfree coffee date. This is a chance to catch up on the latest gossip without kids interrupting every five seconds.
8. Eat a Bar of Chocolate
Chocolate is deliciously decadent. It is even good for you if you stick to dark chocolate with a minimum of 70% cocoa solids. Just don’t go too mad, or the diet will be trashed.
9. Go Shopping
Not much beats a shopping trip, but it is a lot easier when you don’t have to drag the kids along. Head to the nearest mall and flex your plastic.
10. Have a Long Soak in the Bath
Ah, the joys of a long soak in a hot bath. Buy some aromatherapy bath oil, lock the bathroom door, and relax for half an hour. Heavenly!
11. Take an Afternoon Nap
Like many moms, you are probably running on empty and seriously sleep deprived. If you have a free afternoon, instead of trying to cram as much in as possible, go to bed and sleep. You will feel so much better when you wake up!
12. Eat Ice Cream
Ice cream is right up there with chocolate and prosecco. Any flavor will do, as long as it is ultra-creamy and you can take your time eating it. For best results, combine this one with a lazy afternoon next to the pool.
13. Go Dancing
When was the last time you went dancing? If the answer is somewhere around 1986, you need to get your dancing shoes on. Book a dance class and try something different. It will be fun!
14. Book a Weekend Away
A weekend away will recharge your batteries and leave you feeling 100% energized. Take your partner or go alone. Either way, you deserve a break,
15. Do Nothing for Once
Sometimes the best treat in the world is to have the luxury of doing absolutely nothing at all. Embrace doing nothing and do not feel guilty for once. You are not a machine.
We all deserve a treat occasionally, so make sure you don’t forget to schedule some ‘me time’ every now and again.
