Jewelry is one of the major fashion staples for busy moms. A few good statement pieces can jazz up your basic components, modernize your look, and really make you stand out in a crowd. Conversely, the classics can elevate the basics, create a more polished look, and add a bit of romance as well.

However, as important as jewelry is, there may still be times when you’ll need to reduce your stock. Perhaps you have outgrown certain pieces; maybe you inherited some from a relative whose tastes are drastically different from yours; or it could just be time to simplify your life.

You could try to pass some pieces on to friends and family members; you could donate them to charity; or, you could try selling it.

Ways to Sell Your Jewelry

You actually have several options for selling your jewelry, and the option your choose depends on your personal situation and comfort level.

Professional Jewelry Buyers

Professional jewelry buyers are generally the easiest way to sell your old jewelry for actual cash profits. Professional buyers should have years of experience appraising and valuing all types of jewelry, including vintage and antique pieces and can take much of the guesswork out of selling your jewelry. They are also the best way to ensure that you are getting the best price for your pieces. Professional buyers can also give you several compensation options including:

  • Selling your jewelry directly to the buyer for cash in hand.
  • Some buyers may even let you mail the jewelry to them, so you do not have to leave the comfort of home.
  • Using your jewelry as collateral toward a loan.
  • You can also opt to pay off the loan, and get the jewelry back.
  • Having the buyer sell it on consignment.
  • It can take longer to get compensated, but consignment could also have a higher rate of return than selling to the buyer outright.

Garage Sales and Flea Markets

If you have the time, and enjoy dealing with the public, you can always sell your jewelry at a garage sale, or flea market. However, the downsides are that you may have to pay a fee to have a booth at the event, and you may not be able to get the best price for your jewelry. Additionally, this type of selling is time consuming because you may have to take your jewelry to several events before you make a sale; and you’ll need to stay at the booth, or trust someone else to, to prevent theft.

Online Auction and Sale Sites

Online auction sites are not as time-consuming, and could have fewer fees than garage sales and flea markets. You won’t have to deal directly with the public and there is little-to-no chance of theft. However, you may not get the best price for your pieces, and you have to deal with shipping and insuring your jewelry. Additionally, you have to deal with the rules and regulations of the auction and sale sites, which can sometimes be very frustrating for buyers.

These are just a few of the jewelry-selling options at your disposal for unwanted jewelry. If you have the time, inclination, and wherewithal, you can sell your jewelry on your own. However, for the best results, you should consider using a professional jewelry buyer.
