Avoid Damage to the Phone

The first thing you need to do is be sure to get a cover for your child to put on their phone. There are many different types of iPhone cases available to ensure that your child can find one that matches their unique style. There are some cases that protect the phone from being damaged by water, being dropped, and from dust. These types of cases decrease the chances of your having to replace or repair the phone in the near future.

Prevent Someone from Using the Phone

You need to be sure that your child places a lock on the phone so that no one can use it without them knowing about it. The phone will have an option to create a pin code that must be typed in before it can be used. Be sure to have a discussion with your child about the fact that you must know the pin code at all times and have an open dialogue about you being able to see what is on the phone whenever you choose, as well. It is best to monitor what your child does on their phone to make sure that they are not getting into any trouble or doing something that could cause them harm.

Avoid Overuse of the Cell Phone

Cell phones can be quite distracting for children and it is important for them to take a break from their phones from time to time. Set restrictions that force your child to set their phone down and walk away from it periodically throughout the day. You could restrict your child from having the phone in their room at night or require them to take a break while they are doing their homework. Being able to sleep throughout the night or focus on their homework fully will help them in the long run.

Create Online Restrictions for the Phone

There are a lot of dangerous things that can be seen or experienced online if your child is allowed to use it freely. It is best to make sure that the internet is restricted on the phone so that your child can only access it with your direct permission. You may need to contact the phone company to have the internet disabled on your child’s phone if you do not want them to have access to the internet at all.

Having a cell phone will give children independence and allow you to get into contact with them at all times. It is important to check up on them regularly to make sure that they are using the phone safely at all times, though. Teaching your child how to be responsible with their phone will help them to value it more and teach them a lesson of responsibility they can use for the rest of their life.
