Of course it isn’t their fault because that’s what kids do. They have all the energy you are lacking and it starts to show sometime just after lunch. If you are looking for a few good energy boosting tips to keep up with your kids here are some suggestions that just might be what the doctor ordered.

Structure and Routine

Perhaps the very first thing you can do for yourself and your children is to establish a routine and add structure to your little people’s lives. Believe it or not, kids need structure and it is proven that they function much better emotionally as well as physically when they have the security of knowing exactly when and where everything is. From naps to meals, structure and routine is a must.

Your takeaway here? If you have an established pattern of naptime, you can also rest while the kids are napping. Sometimes as little as a half hour can refresh you just enough to make it through the afternoon. If you haven’t already established a scheduled time for daily naps, now is the time to do just that. Getting them used to the idea may not be immediate, but once the pattern is set, you’ll notice a marked improvement in their willingness to cooperate.

While We’re on the Subject of Sleep…

When it comes to getting a sufficient amount of sleep, most moms just don’t seem to meet their needs. Sometimes this is because there are just so many chores to do once the kids are down for the count, but other times it’s a matter of those aching muscles after a long day of nonstop running after energetic toddlers. It is a fact that you need approximately eight hours of good, quality sleep to meet your body’s requirements so do whatever you can to ensure you are getting the right amount.

Some mothers have found that they just can’t get comfortable once they finally hit the sack. It could be that a new mattress is called for. Believe it or not the quality of your bed can be a determining factor as to just how well you are able to rest. One of the greatest recent innovations is the system of numbering mattresses for firmness and comfort levels. Moms really may need to invest in a mattress that meets their needs if they are to have any hope of getting the required amount of rest.

Don’t Forget Nutrition!

Some mothers have begun looking at energy drinks and coffee to pick them up in the afternoons, but ladies, this isn’t the answer! Many of you may not realize that you can boost your energy levels quite effectively through a few minor nutritional changes. Yes, we have all heard that those ‘energy bars’ are ideal for a quick pick-me-upper but do they really work? If they don’t have magnesium in the formulation you can bet those carbs aren’t going to do you a bit of good.

According to Web MD, the body needs magnesium for at least 300 different biochemical reactions in the body, one of which is the processing of glucose to provide energy. If you are reluctant to take a mineral supplement, try eating a few cashews, almonds or hazelnuts. None of those to your liking? What about a nice slice of halibut at dinner or perhaps a good hearty slice of whole grain bread? Add daily magnesium to your diet and you will be amazed at your increased levels of energy!

With a few adjustments in these three areas you will start to feel better and have higher levels of energy in no time at all. Add structure, adequate quality rest and good nutrition and you will be amazed at just how easy it is to keep up with those little tykes in perpetual motion. No, it won’t happen overnight but within days you can start to feel the difference. The point is, if you don’t want to exhaust yourself into oblivion, take the time to take care of yourself. Your kids depend on you and their energy isn’t going to decrease so it is up to you to increase yours! It’s a simple fact.
