Tips to Keep Kids Cool This Summer
Summer with the kids means playing outside and trips to the beach. Days are longer with lots of sun, heat, and humidity. While your family is having fun, it’s essential to keep your children cool and comfortable. Review these useful tips to keep your kids cool and happy all summer long.
Pack Plenty of Cold Water

A critical way to avoid heat exhaustion is to stay hydrated. Bring bottles of water along with you when you plan a day out in the sun. Cold water is more refreshing than warm water. Keep in mind that you don’t have to lug a bulky cooler along with you to enjoy a frosty drink.
Leave extra room in each bottle and pop the bottles in the freezer. Sip on ice cold water while the ice melts over a few hours. Wrap a towel around the container to keep the ice frozen longer. Another option is to purchase water bottles that have ice chambers in the middle.
Help Your AC With Ceiling Fans

Sometimes, it’s just too hot for the children to go outside and play. When the temperature rises though, so does your air conditioning bill. Install ceiling fans and turn the fans on daily to help circulate the cold air throughout your home. Ceiling fans can save money on cooling costs since the air conditioner won’t have to work as hard to cool off of the house.
Make a Splash

If you can’t make it to the beach, turn the backyard into a fun water activity zone. Turn on the sprinkler to create a cold shower for the kids to run through and cool off. Get a supply of water balloons or water guns so the little ones have fun while they douse each other with cold water.
Fill a few pools with cold water out in the yard too. Kiddie pools are inexpensive compared to a trip to the beach. Plastic children’s pools can be the cheapest option. If you’re short on storage space, consider a small inflatable pool that folds up when you’re not using it. You can also repurpose your kiddie pool when summer ends.
Choose Cool Clothing

Make sure your children dress for the hot weather. Choose lightweight clothing made of cotton that absorbs moisture. If your kids are active, try shirts made from advanced fabrics that wick sweat away from the body to keep the skin cool. Keep the sun off your children’s scalp and faces with baseball caps or sun hats.
Reapply Sunblock

You make sure that the kids are wearing sunblock before they leave the house. Apply sunblock at least 15 minutes before the kids go outside. Unfortunately, sunscreen won’t last all day. Swimming, sweating, and time in the sun make it necessary to reapply SPF lotion every few hours. Try sunblock sprays to make application fast and easy.
Don’t let a day of summer fun lead to heat exhaustion and sunburn. Keep your children cool, comfortable, and safe. Follow these tips to enjoy your time outdoors during the hot weather.
