Our 4th of July was a lot of fun. We did something different this year; we camped with friends and family. We spend a lot of time at our family’s hunting camp, but never have we camped up there during the summer. We invited our close family friends to share in our experience by camping alongside us.
The first day was spent unpacking and setting up. My husband made bbq chicken and I made all the yummy side dishes. After dinner, we drove our 4-wheelers down to the river to set off fireworks. I decided to put my phone and camera away so I could sit back and enjoy the show, but I did manage to get one photo. After the fireworks we all indulged in s’mores.
On day two, we did a little fishing, 4-wheeling, and swimming, followed by more 4-wheeling adventures, and more food and s’mores. My youngest took a really long nap so I had the opportunity to spend some quality time down by the river with just Jasmine, Sean, and our friends. I don’t think I’ve had time to just swim, lay out, and relax in a while.
I made a very conscious effort to unplug last weekend, and I was successful. I only have these photos because my friend brought her phone down to the river that afternoon and was nice enough to snap and share a few photos with me. My phone wouldn’t even work in our camper, but no biggie. I turned it off and set my phone high on a shelf and forgot about it.
What the photos don’t capture is my son coming down to the river and swimming with “Nemos”, and the teenage kids in our group getting excited to be outdoors and away from their computers and devices and just having some good old fashioned fun.
This picture below is the end of day 2 and Jasmine was ready to pass out after she ate a couple of s’mores. Love how she made her own little recliner out of a chair and an old seat cushion she found sitting around.
Our gorgeous fishing pond.
As soon as we arrived home late Sunday afternoon, I started missing the camp already. I’m looking forward to going back sometime this summer before Jasmine starts back school in August. Summer is just going by way too fast; I can’t keep up. It’s a good thing we only live about 20 minutes from our camp spot. We have the luxury of being able to go whenever we please.
