My family and I are like a lot of families in America today, we bring in too much to be approved for Medicaid but don’t make enough money and can’t afford to buy our own health insurance. Although I’m not sure about the ACA and how health insurance works, so it may be a different story now. My husband and I are both self-employed and if we want health insurance we have to buy it ourselves. Buying insurance just isn’t in our budget right now and probably won’t be for a while. We are what is commonly being referred to as ‘the working poor’. We do whatever we can to save money and I recently found an easy way to save money with Walgreens Prescription Savings Club #rxsavingsclub. With my husband always hurting is back at work or the kids needing medication I knew it was time to head to Walgreens to sign my family up for the Prescription Savings Club. Before I went to the store with the kids in tow I checked out the Prescription Savings plan online. It was a good thing I did my research before heading to the store, when I got there they were all out of pamphlets.
I spent nearly an hour browsing online while the baby was napping. Just reading over the sample prescription savings was proof enough for me that this was a club my family and I definitely needed to be a part of. I took a few minutes to compare club pricing with a few prescriptions I had lying around. Like I mentioned before, my husband’s job is very strenuous and he does need a muscle relaxer from time to time. I checked to see how much a 3 month supply of his prescription would be with the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club and I very surprised that a 3 month supply would only cost us $6.00. While I was at it I decided to check another medication that I take as needed and a 3 month supply would cost us only $3.00, wowzers!
When I was online I saw that the family plan was only $35, for a full year. I also read that the average savings for purchases of commonly prescribed quantities of a brand name drug is $22.71. No one is my family takes medications on a regular basis but that could change at any moment. I think it’s better to be ready, especially when it comes to needing to buy medication, it can get very expensive. I once had to pay over $100.00 for a special bottle of eye drops to kill an infection I had.
I live just about two minutes from my closest Walgreens so we frequent it often, plus Jasmine can push her little brother around in their mini shopping carts. Walgreens is also where I get my families prescriptions filled, it’s close and convenient and I like the friendly people. I always see the same smiling faces when I go in and all the employees know my kids.
Since baby Sean can now sit up in the front of the shopping cart taking the two of them out is so much easier. Baby Sean actually entertains himself by rocking back and forth and squealing, he loves his new vantage point, definitely beats lying back in that old carrier he use to have to ride in. I wasted no time, we headed straight to the back of the store toward the pharmacy. While the kids were entertaining themselves I was eager to get my family signed up.
The women who helped me in the pharmacy was so sweet, he apologized for not having any pamphlets left. She informed me that they went fast. I guess everybody is catching on to these amazing savings. Since I knew what I wanted already I was signed up in a little under ten minutes or so, all I need to do was give my name, address and birthday, and the same for my family members. I was surprised when she told me I could include my family pets too.
I was given a temporary card and told my real card would arrive via mail within a few days. The women helping me also informed me that my Walgreens Prescription Savings Club card would also serve as for any store refunds I would need, no need to bring in my receipt anymore. Information from my purchases would be on my W card, so convenient. Since I’m in the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club I’m automatically enrolled in their Bonus Program as well. I earn a 10% bonus on the purchase of any “Walgreens” branded items and in-store photofinishing. These days, I could always use a little extra savings.
After we were done in the pharmacy I went to grab Jasmine a drink, she had been so patient and helped a lot with her brother. I do reward good behavior so I headed to the coolers and let her pick out a drink. I knew I should go ahead and grab a few things while I was out. I needed some things for my nails and some things for hubby. When I checked out the clerk informed me that I could go home and enter my receipt info online and it would be put on my W card. Once I got home I signed up online so I could view my Walgreens Prescription Saving Club plan. The clerk was right, within a few minutes I had my receipt info keyed in. I can keep doing this until my card arrives in the mail. Even if I’m out shopping one day and forget my W card all I have to do is jump online with my recipe, key in a few numbers and my purchase is logged onto my card.
I know the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club is going to save us a lot of money. Now it’s time to think about what to do with all the money we will be saving. Make sure to take a moment and connect with Walgreens on Twitter and Facebook. You can check out more from my shopping trip to Walgreen by checking out my Google+ Album.
