Summer is the best. The sun is shining, the weather is hot, and there is no school for at least a few months. Of course, all this comes at a price; namely that you are going to have to come up with a few ideas to keep the kids entertained. One way to do this is to hold a party for your kids and their friends. You don’t necessarily need an occasion. Anything will do. Pretty much every day of the year is a celebration for something, even if it’s a bit random. For example, today is the Ugliest Dog Day, so let your ugly mutt be an inspiration for a summer party. How cool is that?
Entertainment Options
To make your backyard party fun, some kind of entertainment is in order or the kids will soon get bored. Just so you know: bored kids tend not to stay bored for long, as they invariably find their own entertainment. Unfortunately, this might not be quite what you were hoping for. So instead of leaving the kids to paint the garden fence with spray cans, look into carnival game rentals and have your very own backyard carnival.
On a hot day, a snow cone machine or balloon piñata will be a lot of fun. Set up water fountains and make buckets of frozen fruit pops. Everyone will be grateful for an ice cold drink to cool them down. And if you have a backyard swimming pool, even better. Not much beats a pool party on a scorching hot day.
Musical Fun
You can’t have a party without music, even if you just plug your iPod into some speakers and listen to Taylor Swift classics on repeat. One way to ratchet up the entertainment is to hire a karaoke machine. Most kids and adults love to sing. You don’t even need to be a brilliant, tuneful singer to have fun with a karaoke machine. To a large extent the machine smooths out most of the duff notes and with some careful song choices, anyone can sound like they should be auditioning for America’s Got Talent. Plug in a karaoke machine and let your guests warble away to their favorite tunes. What fun!
Food and Drink
Food and drinks are essential. Since it is summer and you are outdoors in the backyard, fire up the BBQ and cook steaks, burgers, sausages and chicken skewers. Place a tray of bread rolls, wraps, relishes, sauces and dips within easy reach of the meat so guests can create their own mega sandwiches. Prepare some bowls of mixed salads and finish off with lots of cooked corn on the cob. Delicious!
Drinks are easy. Fill up a tray with ice cubes and pile bottles of pop and water in there. They should stay cool for a few hours, or as long as you keep the ice cubes topped up.
