How to Use Less Electricity

Being a stay at home mom is a lot harder work than those who’ve never done the job imagine it to be. As well as making sure that the kids are fed and looked after, you’ve got housework, cooking, and a multitude of other duties to see to that simply never seem to end. When it comes to finances, dealing with bills is often another task that falls on Mom. And as most stay at home mothers will tell you, keeping energy costs down is not an easy task when you have to keep the house at a comfortable temperature all day long as well as all the laundry that needs to be done. Thankfully, we’ve put together some great tips for stay at home moms looking to cut their energy bills.

Perform an Energy Audit

Keeping your energy bills to a minimum doesn’t have to mean dressing yourself and the kids in loads of layers of clothing and wrapping up in blankets instead of turning on the heating system. Instead, perform a simple audit on your home to find any areas that could be causing you to use unnecessary energy, and fix them. For example, an audit of your home might find that you have gaps in windows or doors which are letting heat escape, and filling them in means your heating system won’t need to work as hard. Your energy provider may be able to send somebody to perform an audit for you.

Teach Your Kids Good Habits

Starting early with teaching your children good habits for saving energy will pay off in the long run and mean that you don’t have to put as much effort into keeping your bills as low as possible. Simple things such as switching lights off after leaving a room and making sure that doors are kept closed can all add up to ensure that your energy usage is at a minimum. It’s a good idea to explain to your kids the importance of saving energy, both financially and the effect that it has on the environment. Not only will this be beneficial for you, your kids will develop good habits and a good attitude towards saving energy which will benefit them when they’re older as well.

Switch Energy Suppliers

With so many energy suppliers all claiming to offer the best rates, it’s often hard to tell whether you really are paying the lowest amount possible. However, energy prices are subject to constant change, and just because your current provider was advertising the best rates when you signed up, doesn’t mean that you should assume you’re still getting the best rates now. Get savvy and keep on top of the rates offered by different providers by using a comparison website. Click here to visit Amigo Energy Rates, an excellent energy comparison site.
